Reduce Costs and Emissions with Lithium Powered Airport GSE
The incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving to cleaner technologies at airports ranges from tax incentives, to subsidies and grants, to mandates.
Under the Voluntary Airport Low Emission (VALE) program administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airlines and airports receive financial benefits for reducing carbon emissions. In addition, airports and airlines are taking advantage of the EPA’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act to secure grants that assist in converting from fossil fuels to cleaner electric lithium power.
The ground support equipment (GSE) that is found in airport operations includes vehicles that move aircraft, tow baggage, and distribute supplies. These vehicles are some of the worst offenders for carbon emissions and pollutants, often not having the stringent emissions controls present in automobiles.
There are a number of vehicles that move baggage around the airport, from belt loaders, to baggage tows, to scissor lifts. Airports and airlines are beginning to convert these trucks from highly polluting diesel and gasoline to zero-emission lithium. The added benefit of no maintenance and fast charging makes the transition away from fossil fuels easier than ever.
If your fleet is already electric but running on lead acid, switching to lithium provides a number of benefits as well. Not only are they more cost effective, they are more energy efficient, and eliminate the numerous headaches associated with lead acid. Some of lithium’s major benefits are:
- Zero carbon emissions
- No acid spills, no toxic lead
- Fully recharge in as little as 1 hour
- Designed for opportunity charging
- Use immediately after charging, no cool down required
- Run up to 25% longer on a single charge
- 3000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge
- Maintenance-free → no watering
- Fewer batteries needed in multi-shift operations
- Reduced energy usage by up to 50%
